Live/Work Oasis

Berkeley, CA

  • Year Built: 2024

    The Kitchen, former Laundry Room and Bathroom received complete remodels. A soft color palette unites light-filled new areas.

    • A small addition at the back of the home and the repurposed Laundry and Dining Nook made the generously sized Kitchen and adjacent Family Room possible. Laundry moved to an adjacent closet.

    • The owner works from home and wanted to open the Office to the Deck for client meetings. Natural light was a priority so we used French doors to the new deck overlooking a mature garden.

    • The Bathroom is now a calm, fresh space featuring custom cabinets, a lit medicine cabinet and toilet niche in a new layout.

    Challenges Overcome

    • There was little time for construction delays as the owner had scheduled a large party with out-of-town guests months in advance.

    • Plumbing lines from the upstairs Bathroom, not part of the project, were discovered during demolition and relocating them wasn’t practical. Our design and carpentry teams devised an elegant disguise between the Kitchen and adjacent Family Room.
