The new Parklet extends an earlier parklet to expand seating space for Saul’s Restaurant and Delicatessen.
The Deli Owners wanted to make their COVID-era temporary Parklet permanent to give them more serving and flexible function space, while complementing their existing Parklet.
The new Parklet follows the color scheme of the interior, black and white with red accents. These colors are consistent from the playful paving design up through finish colors on the structural frame around the Parklet.
A long wooden bench that wraps around the south corner delineates the edge of the parklet along with a low concrete wall. A small planter bed softens the hardscape with greenery.
Between seating and the street there are fixed and sliding perforated metal panels that move along a 29 foot steel guide rail to modulate western sun. We worked with the owner of a neighboring business to make sure they still receive ample light.
This custom frame system also supports shade sails that span the Parklet, string lights and patio heaters to improve comfort throughout the day.
