INDOOR/OUTDOOR LIVING

Burlingame, CA

  • Year Built: 2020

While technically not an ADU, we’re including this reimagining of a former Garage here. A new Deck and patios, sheltered outdoor Kitchen and eating area, and Garage converted to a comfortable hangout foster indoor and outdoor living and entertaining.

    • The new spaces take advantage of Bay area weather and the ability to be outdoors much of the year, while offering options to shelter indoors.

    • The palette indoors and out is a mixture of warm wood tones in the decks and Accessory Building siding, pavers that mix warm and cool tones, and black accents.

    • The former Garage became a “Man Cave” with double doors on both ends and a third set that open toward the deck. It’s a flexible space that flows to the patio and outdoor Kitchen area. A full Bathroom in a nearby accessory building keeps comfort in mind.

    • The Kitchen area is equipped with a barbecue and sink for prep and an island with barstools for eating or chatting with the chef. Overhead is a wooden pergola that provides the right amount of shade while keeping the outdoor feel of this space. The painted columns supporting the pergola inject a more traditional element into the contemporary design.

    • Between the Deck and Man Cave are plenty of seating areas providing space for optimal comfort and entertaining.
