Green Development Project

Berkeley, CA

  • Year Built: 2004 - 2008

President of Levitch Associates purchases, designs, builds and sells two, 2,000 square-foot, award-winning, Green Point Rated homes.

Maurice Levitch wanted to design and build a ground-up, green project so this is it!

He learned about the lot from a chance meeting at the Berkeley building department. This led to his purchasing, designing, building, and selling two, 2,000 square-foot, award-winning, Green Point Rated homes.

Each home is a mirror image of the other. The home in the rear has parking served by the mid-block alley, which allows for a common courtyard.

The homes are designed and built using the Whole Systems Approach, incorporating Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), a highly stable, prefabricated wall and roof system. Wide overhangs help to shield the homes from sun and weather. Inside, spaces are bright and airy thanks to open floor plans, soaring ceilings, and ample daylight from windows, clerestories, and transoms. Other green features include countertops made with recycled glass and radiant heating.
