Interior Green Gem Berkeley, CA Back to Projects OverviewGalleryProject DetailsRelated Projects Overview Levitch creates a modern design aesthetic to refresh an older Elmwood home with new Bathrooms, Kitchen and Family Room. “Our remodel of a 1922 home in Berkeley was the largest renovation my husband and I had done, to date. We were lucky to find a home that had many original features, and Maurice was as enthusiastic about preserving these details as I was, while still updating the home and making it work for my family. I wanted to be involved with the interior design of our home, and Maurice was very patient with me. In fact, he enthusiastically took on the projects I described; sometimes I had a photo, sometimes all I had was a vague description of what I wanted. He seemed genuinely interested in building something unique, whether banquette seating, kitchen light fixtures, or the stair rail. Maurice and Jeff never said something couldn’t work. Instead, they figured out how to make it work. Levitch Associates renovated our home in two phases, and I never considered any one else for the job. The contracts were thorough, and invoicing was easy to understand – I always knew the status of the project and my budget. We really got the impression that Maurice felt a responsibility to our home once he worked on it. More than once, I called Maurice with an issue, unrelated to the work they had done previously, and they came immediately to help out. We have left Berkeley and have a new fixer-upper in Massachusetts. Whenever we do any construction at our home, my husband and I always wonder how Maurice would design or build something. Gallery Completed Project Project Details Location: Berkeley, CAYear Built: 2005 This two-phase project includes developing a master plan and phased remodeling of the first and second floors. Phase 1 includes the addition of a Master Bathroom, remodeling a second Bathroom and the Kitchen, and an extensive skylight installation in the existing stairwell. Phase 2 includes: Levitch assists to finish out the lower level a year later. We also add custom-stained concrete floors to bring liveliness to the lower level. The Owners brought their modern design aesthetic to an older Elmwood home, bringing in clean lines and elements such as custom concrete sinks, a metal stair railing and glass mosaic tile. This project won the People’s Choice Award on Build it Green’s 2005 home tour. Although our former clients no longer call this home, the house was cited in an article in Berkeleyside.
