Edward J. Levitch, AIA, Founder

is a licensed Architect and a licensed General Contractor. His experience in construction began in 1946 when he joined the apprenticeship program of the AFL/CIO Carpenters and Jointers of America. For the next seven years he worked as a journeyman carpenter, foreman, project manager, and superintendent for various small and large construction companies both here and abroad. When Mr. Levitch entered the Architectural program at UC Berkeley in 1953, he already understood the building process which enabled him to design buildings that were innovative yet practical to construct. Filled with enthusiasm for the craft, Mr. Levitch started his own business before even graduating. Eventually he became a licensed architect and pioneered the design/build process. Besides successfully running his own business, Mr. Levitch has published two books and taught Architectural design at Contra Costa College for ten years.

Maurice Levitch, AIA, President

has been working in the business since the age of 14. He spent many school vacations working in the field as a truck driver, laborer and carpenter. Soon impelled to pursue architecture more vigorously, he graduated from UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design in 1984 and became a licensed architect in 1991. Maurice had also earned his general contracting license before graduating. Now President of Levitch Associates, Inc., Maurice has been responsible for designing and managing approximately two thirds of all the projects undertaken by the company.

Maurice contributes a monthly column to the Greater Bay Area edition of Builder/Architect magazine. He and his work with Levitch have been featured in several local publications and he has presented to audiences from elementary school students to professional colleagues about architecture, construction and sustainable building.

A Certified Green Building Professional since 2004, Maurice has two award-winning green projects to his credit. He also promotes sustainable building practices as a Certified GreenPoints Rater and an active member of Build It Green.
